Opened on January 14, 1927, this iconic venue was originally constructed by Universal Studios at a cost of $100,000. Designed by the architectural firm Thomas and Mercier, the theater showcased an exotic exterior adorned with Moorish, Egyptian, and Mayan motifs, capturing the eclectic spirit of the era.

A Journey Through Time

The Bagdad Theater's interior was equally captivating, featuring a large stage, a fountain, and Middle-Eastern decor. In its early years, the theater hosted silent films accompanied by a live orchestra, vaudeville performances, and later, talkies. Notably, Sammy Davis Jr. performed here with the Will Mastin Trio. In 1975, the theater gained prominence by hosting the Oregon premiere of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, attended by Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, and Michael Douglas.

In 1991, McMenamins acquired the theater, restoring it to its former glory and transforming it into the Bagdad Theater & Pub. Further renovations in 2013 enhanced the movie-going experience with a larger screen, digital projector, new seating, and an upgraded sound system.
